The History Teachers' Association of Ireland is the only professional body whose sole purpose is to represent the interests of those involved in teaching history.

The HTAI aims:

- to protect and foster the role of history within the Irish education system

- to encourage the better teaching of history by keeping Irish history teachers in contact with new developements in historical research and new approaches to history education

- to keep Irish history teachers in touch with international thinking on education through affiliation with EuroClio and other international bodies.

Deirdre Clancy Medal
Jesse Harrington, winner of the Deirdre Clancy Memorial Medal 2009, was presented with the award by HTAI President Maureen Cooney at a recent celebration at his former school, Presentation Brothers’ College, Cork.  Present for the celebration and generous hospitality were Jesse’s parents, his former teacher and host for the occasion Mr. Michael Dunphy and the officers of the Cork Branch of HTAI. 
Jesse is studying History and Economics at UCC and has just completed his First Arts exams.

Census of Ireland Dublin 1901 & 1911, launched by The National Achives marks another exciting development for history teachers and their students.
